After six years of being the head coach of the men’s basketball team and making it to three Horizon League Championships in the last four years, there have been reports that Billy Donlon has been fired by Wright State.
Although the report has not been confirmed by the University, reports have stated that the 2013 Horizon League Coach of the Year will be fired after a 109-94 overall record and a 53-49 record in the conference.
Under Donlon, the Raiders posted three 20-win seasons and four seasons with 10 or more conference victories. After an injury-filled season led to a 3-13 conference record in 2014-15, Donlon and the Raiders bounced back with a 13-5 conference record this season with a 78-69 loss to Green Bay in the Horizon League Championship on Mar. 08.
Wright State defeated the top-seeded Valparaiso Crusaders twice this season, while Green Bay was the only other team to do so. The Raiders finished with a second place tie with Oakland at the end of the regular season, but received the third seed in the tournament after losing to the Golden Grizzlies twice in the regular season. WSU got revenge as they held the top scoring team in the Nation to 32 points less than their season average with a 59-55 victory in the semi-finals round.
Time will tell if the firing reports are credible or not.
