R.A.s host 'Mystery at the Murder Manor'

A peaceful family dinner was interrupted when the eldest son, Simon died at the dinner table. His death was ruled a homicide, by way of poison. Who killed Simon? What was the motive?

This was the dramatic start of an eventful night orchestrated by the residential advisers (RA) of the honors residential living last month.

During the preparation of the event, RAs were split into different committees: plot committee, catering committee and decorating committee.

While some RAs participated as actors, residents posed as detectives and went on a hunt to find the murderer by interrogating the actors.

Sophomore Gabriel Orengo, 19, computer science and computer engineering major, played Cain -- the brother of the deceased.

Gathering residents together is not always easy with conflicting schedules, which is why this night was particularly important, according to Orengo.

“The purpose of this event was to engage the residents with each other and give them something to do," Orengo said.

One resident/detective of the night was Jordan Allen, 18, a freshman psychology major and she found the event to be very entertaining.

“I have never done something like that and it was very fun," Allen said.

Seeing the RAs in a new environment was rewarding for her because it is rare that she gets to see them all.

Allen said that her favorite part of the night was the reveal of the murderer.

At the end of the night, detectives placed their votes to determine who they thought was the culprit.

Not to everyone’s surprise, the murderer was the victims own mother, luckily Allen guessed correctly.

“I was so confident and the ending was dramatic and it was finally reveled that my guess was revealed to be true,” Allen said.

The underlining goal of the Mystery at the Murder Manor was to bring RAs and residents together for a night.
