Allison Fosson is an 18 year-old early childhood education major.
It was Fosson's mother who showed great interest in her choice to join WSU, "for the quality of education they provide; Wright State offers a great deal of affordable programs."
Fosson feels it is in human nature to look out for one another, and therefore individuals should foster the habit of generosity without having to expect anything from the world.
"It does matter if it is 12 o'clock in the afternoon or in the night, if a friend of mine needs me, I will be there," Fosson said. "I believe that everybody needs somebody for them to take care and look after them during times of struggles and hardship, and I am more than happy to be the leaning shoulder for them to cry on."
That's the reason why Fosson wanted to major in early childhood education. She wanted to breed this very value at an early age amongst children, so they realize that it is okay to ask for help. As they grow up not only will they learn to better appreciate the contributions of others in their lives, but also feel responsible to give back to the community that helped them grow as a person.
"Ever since I started working at the Walmart, I have worked on improving my capacity to listen, and read situations more accurately. With hindsight, I learned how to be independent and responsible," Fosson said. "And secondly, working at the Walmart made me realize how I should view things from different viewpoints because you get to meet a lot of people from all walks of life, and each experience with each person teaches you a valuable lesson. So, these are the two biggest takeaways for me."
According to Fosson, her father has been a role model for how she lives her life, and who she has learned her perseverance from.
"Although he never went to college, he never really stopped being curious, be it reading articles or learning new things, my dad was always willing to expand his knowledge and fulfill his potential, day in and day out," Fosson said. "From working at a Mcdonald's outlet to being the director of the data base wing of his company, he has seen it all. The key to his success was that he never took no for an answer."
