Andrea Ramsey, a Democrat running for a seat in Congress has officially dropped out of the race, according to a Fox News report.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Dec. 15 she announced her decision amid resurfaced news of a sexual harassment suit in 2005.
According to her post, “Twelve years ago, I eliminated an employee’s position. That man decided to bring a lawsuit against the company (not against me). He named me in the allegations, claiming I fired him because he refused to have sex with me. That is a lie. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigated the allegations and decided not to pursue the complaint; the man later decided to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit. Because I wasn’t a named party, I didn’t have any opportunity to participate in its resolution.”
Ramsey was an executive vice president of human resources at LabOne in Kansas. She is one of many politicians who has faced sexual harassment allegations.
The allegation came from former employee, Gary Funkhouser.
According the Fox, Funkhouser stated in a complaint, “after I told her I was not interested in having a sexual relationship with her, she stopped talking to me. In the office she completely ignored me and avoided having any contact with me.”
The case was dismissed in 2006 and the suit ended in a settlement between Funkhouser and the company LabOne. According to a report by CNN, Ramsey told the Kansas Star she was unaware of the settlement.
