The Honor Society extends an invitation to students and alumni through an email where they have an opportunity to receive a scholarship or membership perk. If you have not seen or received the Honor Society email yet here at Wright State, then your time may be coming.
"The eligibility to be a member is to keep a 3.0 GPA or higher. How we nominate our members is through the GPA that has been sent to us or somebody nominates them. The majority of the time it's through nomination," said Honor Society Customer Advocate MJ Yu.
The membership has a $50 charge on a biannual basis, according to the Honor Society website.
"Our members either have the option to have it as a recurring fee, or they can do it manually. If it's manual, then they will receive an email from us stating that the membership is up for renewal," Yu said. "The $50 fee is for exclusivity services. They are also funding for scholarship opportunities and are also partnered with Exclusive Services to provide students with tools for career guides, and discounts on textbook rentals, so this would come with benefits.”
Some other benefits include regalia for graduation, a membership certificate, social media privileges, travel and restaurant discounts, and more, according to Yu. "Health and dental discounts is one of our biggest benefits," she added. Yu mentioned that 75,000 members are involved across the USA and Canada.
Last year, $40,000 in scholarships were awarded to members in, according to Yu, and available scholarships can be found online. "Eight scholarships are up and one of them is the Core Values Scholarships which is for $1,000 dollars, and we also have the Graduate Student Achiever’s scholarship for 2,000 dollars, and other available scholarships for our members," Yu stated.
