On Wednesday, Feb. 14 at approximately 2 a.m. a clown was seen walking from the student union over to parking lot four. It was then seen getting into the back seat of a black sedan before speeding off onto Colonel Glenn Highway.
The eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, was willing to share their sighting,
"I was driving off campus to grab some food when I saw a person in an all yellow jumpsuit cross the street ahead of me. It wasn't until it stepped into the light that I saw the red puff ball buttons on the suit and the white mask with red hair. It looked like a typical clown just walking slowly into the parking lot. I decided to pull into parking lot four to see what was going on and that's when it hopped into the back seat of a running car. It then took off really quickly, like I'd say it was going at least 40 miles per hour across the parking lot before going out onto Colonel Glenn. I decided then to just call the police and let them check it out".
When asked if the clown looked like it was doing anything illegal or harmful, the eyewitness said the fact that it was a clown was reason enough to be suspicious,
"It's just something you see rarely on the news," they said. "Who knows what it was doing, but the fact that it was walking around at that hour in a costume and mask, while proceeding to get into the back seat of a running car is extremely odd, and I personally found it to be disturbing".
In October of 2016 and 2017, many clowns were popping up all over the country in what seemed to be a troubling fad. While most cases seemed to be harmless, some cases were anything but. In August 2016, a town in South Carolina had multiple reports of clowns trying to lure children into the woods, which prompted a police investigation.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity on campus at any time is encouraged to call the Wright State police department at 937-775-2111, or 911 for an emergency.
