LEGO selling building sets for $5.65

In celebration of the toy giant’s 60th anniversary, LEGO will be reducing their building set prices to $5.65 at Walmart the first week of February, according to Dayton Daily News.

The price reduction is equivalent to the cost of LEGOs in 1958 -- today a medium box set costs $27.99.

The anniversary set will include 538 pieces, compared to the 484 pieces available in a typical medium box set.

“LEGO play is powered by imagination and curiosity, and the LEGO brick is at the very heart of it – putting the bricks together and taking them apart over and over, with imagination as your only limit,” said Julia Goldin, Chief Marketing Officer, the LEGO Group in a press release.

LEGO was originally known as Automatic Binding Bricks when they were launched in 1949; it was renamed in the 1950s to its current iconic name. Originally, the pieces only came in white, red, yellow, blue and green.

The iconic toy will be available at the discounted price started on Saturday, Feb. 3 and the kit includes eyes, wheels, doors and windows. The kit will also include pieces to create buildings, vehicles and other structures.

Six of the 2x4 LEGO bricks can be combined in over 915 million ways, according to the LEGO website.
