Springfield Street's multi-million dollar project plan

On Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where the National Museum of the United States Air Force is located, there's a portion of land near Springfield Street up for a multi-million-dollar renovation process.

The two-phase project is expected to cost about $5.46 million dollars and is centered around transforming the current four-lane street into a "to a two-lane road with a center two-way left-turn lane," along with bicycle lanes on each side, according to Dayton Daily News.

Phase I of the redesign plan is expected to go east of Harshman Road, while Phase II is expected to go west of Harshman Road. The ultimate goal of the reconstruction plan is to improve safety, minimize speed, as well as to fix the failing road in the incoming years.

Riverside's Director of Planning and Program Management Brock Taylor stated in the Dayton Daily News article, "We have an issue of speed with the four lanes," and hopes that by changing the lanes, it will help decrease speed.

Springfield Street has numerous vehicles per day – 8,000 to be exact, and this redesign plan follows the "road diet" method (a lane reduction or improvement technique) recommended for streets with traffic flow of under 22,000 cars, according to Dayton Daily News.

The project would ward off certain areas for safety and calls for additional parts of the Springfield Street road to be constructed, too. Concerned citizens can attend the public meeting on March. 22 to receive more feedback as how this project will unfold and be implemented in the incoming years.
