Woman drives car into White House security barrier

Earlier this afternoon, the White House Secret Service tweeted to let the public know that, "An individual driving a passenger vehicle struck a security barrier near the White House at 17th & E."

The incident was reportedly intentional and carried out by an unnamed female driver who did not manage to breach the security barrier. Secret Service agents apprehended the woman immediately. None of the agents were injured and no shots were fired at the scene according to multiple news agents.

The White House went on lockdown right away with no one allowed entry or exit. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melanie Trump are reported to have been in the middle of a meeting with Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

The Secret Service agents mentioned that they recognized the woman and she is believed to suffer from mental health issues. CNN reported that it is not believed that the woman was targeting President Trump.

Shortly after the situation was under control, the Secret Service tweeted again, to warn commuters of possible delays. "Traffic patterns near 17th and E are affected," the tweet read.

Images have circulated of a white SUV with a busted out back window, but it is currently not verified that this is the vehicle that hit the barrier.
