The men’s golf team has opened up the second half of the season with a few tournaments through March, including the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate, the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate and the Manor Intercollegiate.
These were the first tournaments for the team since competing back in October.Head coach Brian Arlinghaus kept the team focused throughout the offseason to stay ready for the rest of the season.
“During the off-season we do a lot of weight training and stretching with our athletic training staff to increase our swing speed, flexibility and hopefully prevent any injuries during the season. We also spend time hitting balls outside at The Practice Center in Franklin and in McLin Gym. This time and space allows players to finalize any off season mechanical swing changes they are working on.”
For Arlinghaus and the team, their goals have stayed the same.
“As always our goal is to win the Horizon League Championship and advance to the NCAA regionals. That being said, the players and I all know that without working towards and achieving our process goals, the outcome goal of a conference championship isn’t likely. We spend more time trying to accomplish goals which are within our control and doing so will move us closer to achieving our ultimate goal of winning tournaments.”
The team has a more tournaments right around the corner as they look to close out the season in a successful manner. This coming weekend on April 9 and 10, the team will head to Nashville for the Big Blue Invitational.
The team will then compete in the Wright State Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Course on April 15 and 16, this will be the last tournament for the team before the Horizon League Championships in Florida.
