Student Government Association is partnering with their fellow coordinating campus organizations and the Office of Student Activities to collect winter clothing for those in need.
With a bitter winter coming up, it is important that students have the warmth and protection they need. Specifically, the drive aims to benefit students with financial need and international students who are not used to winter temperatures.
“We found out that a lot of students don’t have those types of things and Ohio does get really cold, especially in the upcoming months,” explained Austin Rex, director of Outreach and Collaboration.

They will be accepting coats, gloves, hats, scarves and any other winter apparel. Donations can be dropped off during the last week of classes, finals week and over winter break.
The collected attire will be distributed in January upon returning from winter break. Donations will be stored in and distributed from a room in the Dunbar Library.
Rex and Ariel Ya’akov, director of Diversity and Inclusion, came up with the idea to hold the drive and are the planners of the event.
“Ariel’s interest especially was the international students who don’t understand how cold Ohio gets,” said Rex. “So we thought it was a really good initiative to just kind of gather donations and distribute those to the students that we know need them.”
According to Rex, this is the first year that a winter clothing drive has been held by Student Government.
“We encourage people to just drop donations in any of the bins so we can get as much as we can,” said Rex.
