Iconic duo Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are at it again. “Holmes and Watson” is a comedy in which Sherlock Holmes (Ferrell) and his partner, Dr. Watson (Reilly), must solve the case of a murder at Buckingham Palace before the Queen is killed.

The film received a startling eight percent on Rotten Tomatoes. IMDb gave it a slightly higher score of 3.4/10. The movie was offered to Netflix who refused to buy it.

It was written and directed by Etan Cohen, director of “Get Hard”, which features Ferrell and Kevin Hart. It is rated PG-13 for crude sexual material, some violence, language and drug references. It came out on Christmas Day after its release being postponed several times; it was originally meant to be released on Aug. 3.

The film was true to character in the fact that Holmes was always on drugs.

As a fan of Will Ferrell, I was prepared for a stupid movie; his dumb humor normally entertains me. However, this is not the best of his movies by far. The plot took a while to get started and many of the jokes fell flat. Yes, there were still funny jokes and scenes, but there were also plenty of boring, dry scenes. Overall, the movie was not very impressive; I would not go see this movie again.

Audience scores are low, Rotten Tomatoes shows 29 percent of audience members enjoying it, and many viewers actually got up and left theatres in the middle of the film.

If you really like Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, this film is worth one watch. After that, watch “Step Brothers” instead.
