Without a doubt, the end of 2018 going into 2019 has been Ariana Grande’s time to shine. Setting several different records with her single and album, “thank u, next”, Grande is serenading old and new fans all over the world.
As soon as the album was released in February, it blew up.
By the end of the month, Grande earned herself the top three spots on the charts, breaking the record last earned by The Beatles.
Barring a major difference from her past albums not only in sound and style, but meaning, “thank u, next” is packed with emotion, passion and feeling.Considering Grande’s past months of heartbreak and unwanted time in the media, it is assumed that these songs, especially “thank u, next”, are written from sadness, grief and the need to let things go.
Despite what Grande went through to create this album, every song is a radiant masterpiece.
Coming from someone who was not much of a Grande fan to begin with, that is saying something.
From her compelling words in “ghostin” to her powerfully-chilling anthem of fortitude in “fake smile” and her dynamic candor in “needy”, Grande completely pours her heart out on this album.
Besides the more melodic and somber side of this album, there are plenty of bad-ass, revolutionary anthems to celebrate and lose yourself in.
“NASA” reminds us that although it may be difficult to admit to a significant other, self-care is often beneficial in the form of space and time apart; even when there isn’t anything wrong.
“break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored” is an amazing song to jam to when you’re feeling yourself and you know you look good.
Even if you don’t truly mean, or agree with what is being sung, it is still a great confidence-booster.Unlike many songs that annoyingly repeat themselves over and over on the radio, “thank u, next” is an album that would cease to become irritating if played repeatedly.
