This semester, the staff at the Dunbar Library has decided to raffle off one of the brand-new silent study rooms for one lucky student to use the week before finals.
The room includes a computer with duel monitors and printer access in an adjacent room.
“As a part of the renovations provided by the State Capital Improvements funding, we now have more private spaces for students to use. We have two multimedia rooms, four group rooms and seven bookable private spaces, one in which we are raffling off for full access for one week,” said Mandy Shannon, head of Instruction and Research Services at the Dunbar Library.
In a survey done in 2016 by the Dunbar Library on how students use library facilities, it was found that the lack of privacy and silence were concerns for students. Thanks to the $1.1 million state capital funding awarded to the library to improve the building, this spring semester shows that students have been heard.
Before the renovations, the Dunbar Library had four reserved rooms available for students to use. It now has a total of 13, fully equipped to serve students at any time.Shannon hopes this raffle will help get the word out that the campus library is always present to serve students, whether it is finals week or not.
“We want to make sure students know that these facilities exist,” said Shannon.
More events like the private study room raffle may happen in coming semesters.
“We are waiting to see the reaction. Keep a watch on our social media for what we have coming up,” said Shannon.
Regular printing costs will still apply. For students gearing up for the long hours spent at the library, there is no better time to catch that needed studying in peace and quiet.
