In an intense match against Cleveland State, Women’s Soccer fought hard but eventually fell to the Vikings.
With a final score of 3-2, it was a rough Thursday night for the Raiders.
Wright State’s defense was working hard during the first half as the Vikings dominated possession of the ball.
The first goal of the night was scored by Cleveland State in the ninth minute, and soon after, they were back on Wright State’s half of the field again.
Not long after the first, another goal was almost scored by the vikings as it rolled across the goal line, but was saved by M Emily Rotterman (15) and eventually cleared out of Wright State’s defensive third.
The remainder of the first half continued to be much of the same and the score at halftime was 0-1.
Within the first two minutes of the second half, another goal was scored by the Vikings, but the Raiders were ready to return the favor.
For the second half, the Raiders came out ready to fight and in the 58’ F Jordyne Helinski (22) scored the Raiders’ first goal of the match with an assist from F Sydni Callahan (14), bringing the score to 1-2.
After this, the Raiders had a renewed sense of energy and the pace of the game picked up tremendously. Both teams were fighting hard for the win.
Wright State continued to take shots on goal and had a lot of promising opportunities but struggled to get the ball in the back of the net.
Unfortunately, Cleveland came back and scored almost 10 minutes later, bringing the score to 1-3.
The Raiders were not ready to give up though. In the 74’ Helinski put the ball in the net after a pass from M/D Naomie Guera (18), giving the team the morale they needed to continue the fight.
With a score of 2-3 and 16 minutes left in the game, the Raiders fought hard all the way to the end, but couldn’t put another goal together.
With this being the last game of the season, the Raiders finish with a record of 10-5-2 overall and 5-4-0 in Horizon League play.
They now await their seeding and schedule for the Horizon League tournament starting Nov. 7.
