Wright State University (WSU) began hosting Family Chats before the 2020 Fall Semester for both the Lake and Main campuses. These chats are a way for students and their families to ask questions and receive direct answers.
Associate Vice Provost of Student Success Tim Littell led the Family Chat and had 14 other faculty members participate in answering questions.
Topics such as meal plans, move-in week, parking and online classes were discussed.
Parking
According to the discussion, parking fees will be $48 for the Fall Semester. Students are able to park anywhere except for restricted places. They must go to Parking Portal and buy their pass before the first week of classes end.
Housing
According to Director of Residence Life and Housing Dan Bertsos, all students will have their own bedrooms. They will still share bathrooms with other people, much like living in a suite.
“We’re trying to maintain our little bubble of safety here,” said Bertsos.
Any student that has already paid for their fall semester housing and wants to wait to return to campus will be able to email housing@wright.edu in order to discuss any problems or concerns. If WSU needed to close down housing early, they would issue refunds to students.
WSU asks that students limit the number of people helping them move in to two individuals.
Health
Student Health Director Genessa Merritt said that WSU is not requiring testing for coronavirus before move in.
“All community members, students and employees, will have to do a self-assessment prior to coming to campus or class each day,” said WSU Social Media Program Director Katie Halberg.
Flexible delivery
“When conditions permit, professors can be on campus and in the classroom with students while also broadcasting the lecture for those who want to stay off-campus,” said Faculty President and Political Science Professor Laura Luehrmann.
Flexible delivery gives students and professors the ability to still interact face-to-face while also keeping their distance if that is what they choose. This will be available at both campuses.
Students are able to see if their classes support flexible delivery by looking at their schedules or by contacting their professors.
Lake Campus
The Lake Campus will also be making changes to how they operate in order to maintain safety for its students and staff.
The Lake Campus will continue remote tutoring and will have study spaces open for students to use. The library will also be open. Along with this, all advisor meetings will be held remotely in order to assure safety for all.
Questions
Students are encouraged to reach out to any member of the WSU faculty or staff with questions that they have. Please email professors about concerns with attending classes and with any questions that may arise from being online.
