Whether you are staying home or hitting the beach, summer is a great time to escape into another world through these fiction books.

Where the Crawdads Sing

This historical fiction book by Delia Owens has sat on the New York Times Bestseller List for 162 weeks, according to The New York Times. The story revolves around a woman raised in the marshes of North Carolina in the 1950s, who is the prime suspect in a murder case.

The novel has been adapted into a movie, set to release July 15, 2022.

Book Lovers

This contemporary romance book was a highly anticipated release by Emily Henry following the success of her two other most recent books, “Beach Read,” and “People We Meet on Vacation.”

The book is a love letter to book lovers, as readers follow Nora Stephens, a literary agent, as she goes on vacation with her sister. While away, she continually bumps into a brooding editor that does not fit any of the book tropes she loves.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Originally released in 2017, this Taylor Jenkins Reid novel did not gain much traction until the summer of 2020, when the book was featured in a multitude of videos on Tiktok.

The book covers the life of old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo as she recounts her various marriages and one true love to Monique, a struggling writer who is connected to the star in a shocking way.

The Midnight Library

This fantasy novel by Matt Haig explores the choices people make and the regrets that come from them. Readers follow the protagonist, Nora, as she discovers a library between life and death that holds books full of alternate realities based on the choices she has made.

The Silent Patient

This thriller mystery book by Alex Michaelides follows a psychoanalyst as he dives into the life of a famous painter who hasn’t spoken since she shot her husband years ago. The more Theo tries to learn and understand why Alice won’t talk leads him down a twisting path toward his own obsessions with the truth.

These titles can be found in local libraries, bookstores and online retailers like Amazon.
