Between live productions and feature films, theaters provide a great respite from the summer heat. Here are some of the most unique theaters in the Dayton area.
Movie theaters
Summer is the season for movies and with films like “Minions, Rise of Gru” and “Thor Love and Thunder” making their debut in July, these Dayton theaters are a great place to spend a summer afternoon.
Plaza Theater
Located in Miamisburg, this historic theater opened in 1919, and features a unique viewing environment.
The traditional-style theater features 700 seats, concessions and five dollar movie tickets.

Dixie Drive In
Those with vehicles looking for a nostalgic film-viewing experience can check out Dixie Drive In located in Dayton.
The drive-in features two large screens that show two movies per night along with concessions. Open six nights a week through the end of August, patrons have the opportunity to see a variety of films and enjoy the experience either in cars or outside.
Shows start at 8 p.m. each night and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children; military discounts available.
Live theaters
Dayton is also home to several live theaters and playhouses. Those looking to enjoy a summer stage production can check out La Comedia and The Loft theaters.
La Comedia
Located in Springboro, La Comedia is a historic playhouse that features live theater productions and dining experiences.
The theater is currently hosting its 28th season with a production of Beauty and the Beast which runs until July 24.

Loft
Home of The Human Race Theater Company, in the Metropolitan Arts Center, The Loft Theater is a more intimate performance environment.
