Summer is still going strong with many annual events returning, here are two larger multi-day events in Ohio coming up this week.
Restaurant Week
Dayton is home to various small businesses. Restaurant week, which spans July 24 to July 30, features some of the area’s most popular restaurants and eateries. The Last Queen, Wheat Penny and Figlio are just a few of the featured restaurants.
Hosted by the Miami Valley Restaurant Association, the event aims to draw business to the local area, especially to newer dining establishments. Each featured restaurant will have a special tasting menu with a variety of options and prices.
Ohio State Fair
The Ohio State Fair has been a longstanding state tradition since the late 19th century and will continue this year in Columbus, Ohio.
Spanning the week of July 27 through Aug. 7, 2022, the Fair will feature typical fair activities like rides, games and food, along with concerts and special events. This year, the large-scale festival is open to the public with presale tickets starting at $8 for general adult admission or $10 at-the-gate tickets.
The Fair will take place at the Columbus Expo Center, on 17th Ave. in Columbus, Ohio.
National
COVID-19 still remains a concern in the U.S and abroad as COVID cases rise and a new variant emerges.
BA. 5, a subvariant of Omicron, has been spreading quickly across the nation with 77.9% of all U.S. COVID cases being attributed to Omicron BA.5, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Additionally, Physician to the President Kekvin O’Connor revealed that President Joe Biden, tested positive for COVID, last week. The release did not say whether the president's case was due to Omicron or another variant. The White House further maintains that the President is still in good health.
Global
Countries in Africa and Europe continue to struggle with the current Monkeypox outbreak.
Monkeypox is a viral infection, similar to smallpox, that is usually transmitted from animals to humans but can also be transmitted between humans.
The World Health Organization initially noted the current outbreak of the disease in Europe and Africa in May 2022.
Recently, WHO leaders met to discuss the continuance of the outbreak and efforts to contain it including how to prevent transmission from both animals and humans.
