Wright State University's main residential organization holds Halloween meetings to create community and plan spooky campus events.
What is it
The ‘Spooky Halloween Residential Linkup’ took place in 160 Rike Hall from 8 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 3. The event included some ice breaking activities as well as a brief talk from the Wright State University Police Department on alcohol safety before finally planning the ‘Nightmare of Springwood Lane’, according to Jelena Gajic, an undergraduate student of psychology.
“Nightmare of Springwood Lane is for celebrating Halloween; we want the students on campus to feel like children again and, you know, get the thrill again,” Ramata Ngaide, the president of the Residential Student Association, said.
Springwood Lane is located in the Woods residential community in the back of campus.
Putting the event together
Hosted by RCA, additional communities like Hamilton Hall and College Park Apartments, who operate under the RCA, also assist in planning the Nightmare of Springwood Lane event.
“It’s the RCA event. It's a traditional event of ours, we do it every single year; it is our give-back event.” Ramata Ngaide said.
Ramata Ngaide added that the RCA gathers as many donations as possible for the Raider Food Pantry during the event.
Safety tips
Gajic, also voiced the importance of holiday safety tips that were presented by the University police department during the meeting. WSUPD shared how students of legal age living with students of non-legal age are forbidden to keep alcohol in any shared area and can be held responsible for the underage drinking of a roommate. Consequences can range from a fine to jail time, so students should be aware, Gajic expressed.
