From local happenings to national topics and global events, here is the news worth knowing for the week of March 27, 2023. 

Local 

Senator Sherrod Brown discussed a bill for the Assistance for Local Heroes During Train Crisis Act from the East Palestine train derailment in February.

“When big rail corporations like Norfolk Southern wreak havoc on communities like East Palestine, local first responders are left to clean up their mess,” Brown said in the March 16 press release.

National 

On March 25, tornadoes hit the state of Mississippi. President Biden issued a statement that the Federal Emergency Management Agency deployed emergency response personnel to provide federal support. 

“While we are still assessing the full extent of the damage, we know that many of our fellow Americans are not only grieving for family and friends, they’ve lost their homes and businesses,” Biden said in the March 25 press release.

Global

Team Japan defeated Team USA 3-2 in the World Baseball Classic. Shohei Ohtani struck out Los Angeles Angels teammate Mike Trout to seal the game for Japan.

“I believe this is the best moment in my life,” Ohtani, the MVP of the tournament, said in a tweet from World Baseball Classic.
