Structure fire in Jacob Hall
On June 6, there was a structure fire at Jacob Hall on the Wright State University Dayton campus. The Fairborn Fire Department, alongside mutual aid, fought the fire for approximately one hour.
There is fire damage in two to three units and water damage to the entire building, according to battalion chief John Sands. Seth Bauguess, director of communications at WSU, explained that the fire is still under investigation with no damage estimate.

Canadian wildfires cause air quality concerns
On June 7 and 8 in New York City, the air quality index reached between 300 to 500, which is considered hazardous with health warnings of emergency conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
In a White House press release, President Joe Biden addressed the Canadian wildfires that have caused the decrease in air quality.
“This morning, millions of Americans are experiencing the effects of smoke resulting from devastating wildfires burning in Canada, another stark reminder of the impacts of climate change,” Biden said.
A fire behavior map from the Natural Resource Center in Canada shows that the head fire intensity in Ontario and Quebec reached over 30,000 kilowatts per meter.
Unabomber dies at 81
On June 10, Theodore Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, died in prison at 81, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
From 1978 to 1995, Kaczynski delivered homemade bombs to homes and universities, killing three Americans and injuring two dozen more, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation profile.

Indigenous children found in Amazon
According to an Associated Press release, four Indigenous children survived a plane crash and were stranded for 40 days in the Amazon jungle. Colombian authorities and Indigenous volunteers found the children alive on June 9.
Djokovic wins French Open, breaks record
Novak Djokovic won the French Open on June 11, making the Serbian tennis player the leader in men’s grand slam title wins, according to the ESPN record of grand slam winners. Djokovic now has 23 grand slam titles, with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer taking the second and third spots.
