Local

On Aug. 22, a Northwestern school bus was involved in a crash on State Route 41 in Clark County. A minivan was traveling eastbound and went left of center, striking the westbound school bus, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release

One elementary student was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. The release also states that 22 children were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, one was transported with life-threatening injuries and the bus driver was not transported and suffered minor injuries.  

National

According to Hawaii Governor Josh Green’s Facebook page, there are over 400 missing persons and 115 deaths as a result of the Maui wildfires as of Aug. 24. 

On Aug. 21, President Joe Biden appointed Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 9 Administrator Bob Fenton as the Chief Federal Response Coordinator for Maui, according to a White House press release. As of Aug. 23, the Biden administration has approved over $12 million in assistance to 3,300 households in Maui.

“As the President made clear, he is committed to delivering everything the people of Hawaiʻi need, and his Administration will be there as long as it takes to complete response efforts,” the press release reads. “Throughout this process, the Administration is focused on respecting sacred lands, cultures and traditions.”

Global

Yevgeny Prigozhin, Russian mercenary leader who led a June 24 armed rebellion, is presumed dead after a plane crash in Moscow on Aug. 23, according to an Associated Press release. All 10 passengers on board were killed as a result of the crash.  
On Aug. 25, the Kremlin denied allegations that it played a role in this plane crash.
