On Aug. 23 and 24, Wright State University welcomed a plethora of students to campus during Operation Move-In. None of this could have occurred without the help of staff, faculty, alumni and students coming together.

A team effort

WSU’s first-year students moved into the dorms last week, and this year, over 2,000 students are living on campus, according to Jennifer Attenweiler, Director of Residence Life. This number of residents is higher than the past few years, with 1,565 students moving on campus last year, according to the Wright State newsroom. There are also more Resident Assistants this year: 60 in total.

Attenweiler expressed excitement for what she calls “a more vibrant and robust community.”

Between faculty, staff, alumni and students, over 200 volunteers helped with move-in this year. Although the core team behind the operation is Residence Life and housing staff, move-in involves multiple different departments on campus, including volunteers from student organizations, Greek Life and the Wright State Police Department.

According to Attenweiler, preparation for move-in began in March, and throughout the summer, housing staff held meetings to plan logistics and communicate to make move-in run smoothly. Attenweiler provided a unique testimonial about the move-in experience.

“Last year, somebody quoted us as the ‘Chick-fil-A’ of moving because of how efficient our lines were,” Attenweiler commented.
