On Wednesday, Aug. 30, impromptu sports galore, including basketball, water balloon fighting and more, dotted the Woods Court.

As an annual event, Field Day has been going on for at least all three years that senior Tymere Tuck, Black Men on the Move President and member of BSU, has been a part of these organizations.
After last year’s rain and event cancellation, the organizations looked positively toward this year’s event. The collaborative effort included BSU President Jazmine Reeves and other members of BSU leadership, who have planned this event approximately two months ahead of the Aug. 30 date.
Before the start of the event, Tuck hoped this event would bring the community, especially the residential community, closer together.
“I think this event is important because you see the people you live around, [you are] able to meet the community, meet new people. I feel like college is a really big thing for me because it’s all about connections and networking,” Tuck said.
Council leader for BSU Phillip Collins echoed a similar sentiment, particularly for freshmen and upperclassmen.
“This will pretty much be the first event where [freshmen] actually get to meet everybody,” Collins said.
Both Collins and Tuck agree that fall events are best for turnout and were looking positively toward attendance of Field Day.
Event
“Let your inner child out at Field Day!” the CORQ and Engage descriptions of the event read.
Dozens of students descended on the Woods Court for the fun. Games included water balloon fighting, basketball, a large version of Connect Four, relay races and bomb ball, which Reeves describes as “volleyball and hot potato mixed together.”
“Just by getting different games, a lot of people are coming together,” Reeves said.
Basketball and bomb ball were the most popular games of the night, with basketball games being played across both courts early in the event.
BSU and Black Men on the Move encourage all students to also attend their Pool Party on Sept. 8, Student Survival Guide Session on Sept. 13 and the annual Heritage Ball on Feb 23.
