Freshman midfielder Addy Canter and sophomore midfielder Elise Canter are back together to take on college. These sisters are looking forward to playing together again and spending more time with one another.
Does their life revolve around soccer?
Addy and Elise went to Beavercreek High School and played basketball, soccer and track for various years. Since they were young, the Canter sisters have been competing with one another and showing off their talents.
Only being a year apart and sharing a lot of similar interests, Addy and Elise share a lot of the same friends, both from high school and college. One of their similar interests is the love for dogs. Addy and Elise just got a puppy, Tilly, so they have been spending a lot of time together playing with her.
On the field
“Being in the same household and growing up together, they know what each other thinks and how each other plays,” Head Coach Travis Sobers said.
Their connection formed while growing up and playing soccer in high school, which will be a huge asset to the women’s soccer team throughout the next three years.
“We understand how each other plays, like our thought processes and stuff, and we can play off of them easily,” Elise said.
The Canters also understand each other's personalities on the field and use it to hype one another up or sometimes tell each other to “chill out” when things get heated, according to Addy.
As siblings, Addy and Elise bring out the competitiveness in one another. While they are competitive with one another, they really compete with each other and for each other.
“You can definitely tell we take it hard on each other,” Addy said.
Coach Sobers is happy that the Canters bring out this type of ambition.
“The more they compete with one another, the better we will be as a program,” Sobers said.
Moving forward
It is amazing that Addy and Elise have the opportunity to play together again, especially at the Division 1 level. A big reason why Addy committed to Wright State was to be with her sister, and the two are very excited to be together on the field again.
“I think they are really starting to appreciate it now,” Sobers said about the reunion. “It’s a hats off to them for putting in the work to make sure they got here, and I’m happy for both of them that they’re in this program.”
