Local

On Aug. 28, Wright State University experienced a large amount of internet traffic, causing internet connectivity issues and lagging on PILOT and WINGS Express.

“We will continue to monitor and investigate the situation with our service providers and provide updates when available,” the Computing and Telecommunication Services (CaTS) at WSU announced via university-wide email and PILOT post.   

As of Sept. 1, WSU continued to experience connectivity issues.

National

Hurricane Idalia makes landfall

Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida on Aug. 30 as a Category 3 hurricane, according to a Federal Emergency Management Agency release.

“Hurricane Idalia brought significant damage and flooding across its path through the Southeast,” the release reads. 

Jimmy Buffett dead at 76

Legendary singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, known for “Margaritaville,” died on Sept. 1 at 76. According to Buffett’s official website, he passed away in the night surrounded by those he loved.

“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by

so many,” the website reads. 

Global

According to a Sept. 1 Associated Press release, 76 people died in an apartment fire in Johannesburg, South Africa. Squatters and homeless individuals used the derelict building that caught fire in the predawn hours on Thursday morning. According to the release, at least 12 of the victims were children.
