On Sept. 7, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow signed a 5-year $275 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid player in National Football League history, according to ESPN.
In 2022, Burrow threw for 4,475 yards and 35 touchdowns. On Sept. 10, the Bengals lost 24-3 against the Cleveland Browns in the first matchup of the season with Burrow throwing for 82 yards.

“That ‘70s Show” actor sentenced to 30 years
A California judge sentenced Danny Masterson, the actor who played Steven Hyde on “That ‘70s Show,” to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women, according to an Associated Press release. The jury did not reach a verdict about a third woman’s allegations of similar sexual abuse.
Former Proud Boys leader sentenced to 22 years
According to a United States Department of Justice press release, Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol attacks. The Proud Boys is a right-wing, all-male extremist group.
“Today, the leader of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, learned that the consequence of conspiring to oppose by force the lawful transfer of presidential power is 22 years in federal prison,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in the release.

Earthquake devastates Morocco
On Sept. 9, an earthquake near Marrakech, Morocco, killed more than 2,000 people, according to an Associated Press release.
“My administration is in contact with Moroccan officials,” United States President Joe Biden said in a statement. “The United States stands by Morocco and my friend King Mohammed VI at this difficult moment.”
World leaders meet at G20
This weekend, world leaders met in New Delhi, India, for the G20 summit. The theme for this year’s summit was “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” and leaders discussed sustainability, climate growth and international peace, among other topics, according to the Council of the European Union.
