Halloween in Dayton: A Student Guide to Gem City’s Spooky Time

Have a spooky good time on and off campus with these October Halloween-themed events and activities.

1. Ghost ‘n Goblin 5K

If you are into fitness, the Ghost ‘n Goblin 5K on Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. is the event for you. The race attracts over 1,200 runners, and additional activities include a costume contest, pizza and raffles. The race tickets cost $34 for adults and $29 for kids.

2. Oregon District Hauntfest

After a COVID-19 break, Hauntfest is back in the Miami Valley. Support local businesses and enjoy live music, DJs, food trucks, beer trucks and street performers in this event on Oct. 28 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $10 through pre-sale or $15 at the door. Attendees must be 18 years old or older to enter and 21 to drink.

3. Dayton Scream Park

Open until Oct. 29, the Dayton Scream Park celebrates 21 years with a whole new compound. The park boasts seven areas with 30 scenes and over 60 actors, taking just under an hour to walk through. Parking is free with admissions costing $20 on Fridays and $25 on Saturdays.

4. Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics

Join together in the Dayton Masonic Center on Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. Selections include “Thriller” by Micheal Jackson and the Ghostbusters theme. Unsold tickets are currently priced at $55.

5. Stoddard Avenue Pumpkin Glow

On Oct. 30 and 31 from 6 to 10 p.m., view hundreds of finely carved pumpkins along the hillside behind Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton's Grafton Hill neighborhood. If doing the carving is more your style, carve a pumpkin for viewing on Friday, Oct. 27, to Sunday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. This event is free and open to all ages.

6. Brimstone Haunt

Many spooky activities in one, Brimstone Haunt in Waynesville provides options for multiple scare levels: Haunted Hayride, Forgotten Forest, Psychosis and Zombie Midway. The schedule runs from 7 to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights through October. Parking is $3 cash at the door, and tickets (which are cheaper online) range from $11 to $52 based on the selected experience.

7. WSU Halloween Events

Students do not have to go off campus to get a good scare. 

On Oct. 26 from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Public Safety will be hosting Truck-or-Treat in Parking Lot #20, adjacent to the Wright State Physicians building. The Delta Zeta sorority will host Halloween Bingo on Oct. 26 as well from 5 to 7 p.m.

The new classic event of campus, Halloween Bash, is on Friday, Oct. 27, from 7 to 11 p.m.

The Division of Student Affairs brings a Trick-or-Treat Trail early on Halloween day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. located throughout the Student Union.

Get active with Campus Recreation with their “Monster Wall” event on Halloween from 3 to 7 p.m. Costume contest winners will be announced at 5:30 p.m.

Finally, H2O Church will be hosting a Pumpkin Party Palooza on Halloween night from 7 to 10 p.m. in The Landing.

In addition, keep an eye out for multiple Halloween-themed bake sales going on this late October.
