OSU professor wins Nobel Prize

According to a Nobel Prize organization press release on Oct. 3, Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L’Huillier won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics for their study of electron dynamics in matter. Agostini is a French experimental physicist and Emeritus professor at Ohio State University.

“Ohio is the heart of innovation and research with talented scientists making internationally recognized discoveries, building on our proud legacy of inventions that have changed the world,” Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said in a statement about the Nobel Prize winner.

WSU ranked No. 2 in best value ranking

On Oct. 3, the Wall Street Journal and College Pulse ranked Wright State University No. 2 in best value ranking among public universities in Ohio. The calculation was based on how quickly a degree paid for the cost of education after graduation.

McCarthy ousted as Speaker of the House

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the House of Representatives ousted Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, a first in United States history, according to an Associated Press release

Hamas attack kills hundreds in Israel

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Islamist militant group Hamas attacked over 22 Israeli towns, leaving at least 250 people dead, according to an Associated Press release. The United States and European Union have designated Hamas as a terrorist organization with the Oct. 7 attacks being the latest in a series of armed resistance movements, as the Council on Foreign Relations website reads.
