On Thursday, Oct. 12, the Wright State men’s basketball team announced that the National Collegiate Athletic Association granted a waiver to Tanner Holden to compete in the 2023-2024 season. Holden played for the Raiders from 2019-2022 before playing for Ohio State last season, where he averaged 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
Wright State will head to Colorado State on Nov. 10 for the season opener.
National
The Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment raised benefits by 3.2% for 2024 recipients, according to the Social Security Administration. The COLA helps benefits keep pace with inflation rates each year; in 2022, the COLA was 8.7%, the highest raise since 1981.
Global
The 2023 Israel-Hamas war, which started on Oct. 7, has claimed over 3,000 lives and is expected to escalate after Israeli troops gathered near the border ahead of a potential invasion of Gaza, according to an Associated Press release.
The Council on Foreign Relations explained that within the first two days of conflict, around 800 Israelis and 500 Palestinians were killed after the Hamas attacks and Israeli bombing response.
On Oct. 10, United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, providing further U.S. support to Israel through ammunition, interceptors and other equipment, according to a White House press release.
