On Oct. 26, students enjoyed a game of Halloween-themed bingo with sorority Delta Zeta to wind down after a busy day of classes.

Getting into the Halloween spirit

To assist fellow students in feeling the Halloween spirit in a relaxing manner, the sisters of the Delta Zeta sorority decided to hold a fun evening of bingo.

Classic Halloween songs, such as “Monster Mash” and “Ghostbusters,” played in the background while students used candy corn pieces as bingo chips to cover the squares of their festive scorecards.

As Delta Zeta’s Vice President of Membership, Madison Risner acted as the designated caller and host for the evening, as she handed out scorecards and candy corn pieces to attending guests, called out each letter-number combination as they appeared on the screen and awarded those who called out “bingo!” their choice of either a Tootsie Roll Pop or Blow Pop as their prize-winning treat.

Planning and benefits

Risner explained that her role within the organization is to recruit new members, and she had hoped the event would help accomplish this.

“This was something that was marketed as an open event that people could come to meet other people in our organization and hopefully form some connections alongside that. We did a St. Patrick’s Day bingo last year that was successful, so it was just finding something that a lot of students I know have interest in and making them feel accepted in our organization,” Risner explained.

Current President of Delta Zeta Mackenzie Blair also discussed the intention of the event.

“As a sorority, we like to promote a good image and also just have fun, so we wanted to have an opportunity to invite other people to come and get to know a little bit more about Greek Life while also just having a chill and vibe setting,” Blair said.

Risner also described the Delta Zeta sorority and how it can benefit those who join.

“We specialize in hearing and speech as our main philanthropy. We do a lot of community service work, and it’s a good way for students to make friends on campus as they join and gain leadership opportunities as well,” Risner said.
