The Student Government Association met in its weekly meeting and discussed their first resolution of the semester.

Pickleball resolution

Raj Soin College of Business Senator Logan Smith sponsored a resolution that moved The Woods living community to gain access to pickleball courts.

“Whereas minimal capital investment would be required to transform the basketball courts in The Woods into pickleball courts. Whereas this will provide opportunities to build community among the students,” the resolution reads. “Further resolved, at the conclusion of the academic year, the university will conduct a feasibility study of pickleball courts in the academic corridor of the university.”

SGA tabled the resolution for next week, so it will be voted on during SGA’s meeting on Feb. 13.

Workload policy

Provost Amy Thompson came to the meeting to discuss a recent change in the contract for Wright State staff and faculty. Thompson explained that the workload policy at Wright State was quite different when she arrived three years ago than at other universities.

“Some people's workload will change as a result of this, and we will take under consideration any feedback from faculty and staff as we've had a look to make improvements in the policy as we move forward, but I want to assure you, the policy that we have initiated is very, very similar to our peers and is encouraging research, and it's encouraging student-centered research in a very positive way,” Thompson said.

Other announcements

Ashley Greene, president of Miracle Makers, joined SGA to discuss her organization’s upcoming event, Raiderthon, which is a 12-hour dance marathon fundraiser, and all of the proceeds go to Dayton Children’s. This year’s Raiderthon will be on March 23.

Greene encouraged student organizations to begin forming teams for Raiderthon if they plan on participating. She explained that student involvement and teams are a big reason why Raiderthon has been successful in the past. Teams can register now.

Fraternity and sorority recruitment is still ongoing. More information is available here.

SGA meets again on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. in the Student Union Atlantis A/B room.
