Miracle Makers, an on-campus philanthropic organization, partnered with the Pre-Health Society to make cards to give to kids at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
Making the cards
On March 6, people from all over campus gathered in the Student Union to help decorate cards.
Hailey Abell, a member of Miracle Makers, put together the event, bringing construction paper, markers and stickers so students could make cards for kids in the hospital. Abell also volunteers for the hospital on her own time.
“We can spread some joy,” Abell said.
This was a great opportunity for students across campus to get plugged into community service, and the event was lots of fun. Students were also able to get to know each other while making the cards.
The organizations
Miracle Makers has a history of volunteering with Dayton Children’s Hospital, and the Pre-Health Society does a monthly volunteer project. This was a perfect opportunity for the two groups to work together to make this event possible.
Several people who showed up for the event were also part of Miracle Makers, including one student, Rachel Caughey.
Caughey shared that she was once in a children’s hospital and wanted to give kids the same joy she was brought because she knew how much these cards could brighten someone’s day.
“I love kids, and I know how it feels,” Caughey said.
Volunteering opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities around campus, and Miracle Makers and Pre-Health Society, among other student-led organizations, provide great ways to get involved.
