Governor DeWine calls special session to ensure President Biden is on 2024 Ballot

On Thursday, May 23, Governor DeWine called a rare special session of the General Assembly to pass legislation ensuring President Biden is on Ohio's 2024 ballot, according to the Associated Press. The session will begin on Tuesday, May 28. 

The Democratic National Convention, where Biden is to be formally nominated, falls after Ohio’s ballot deadline of Aug. 7. The convention will be held Aug. 19-22 in Chicago.

Grayson Murray dead at 30

On Saturday, May 25, Grayson Murray, Two-time PGA Tour winner, took his own life, just one day after he withdrew from a PGA tour event, according to the Associated Press. He was 30-years-old.  

Murray’s parents made the announcement on Sunday, asking for privacy and that people honor Murray by being kind to one another.

Nicki Minaj arrested for marijuana possession in the Netherlands

On Saturday, May 25, American rapper Nicki Minaj was arrested after marijuana was found in her bags at the Amsterdam airport, according to theAssociated Press. Minaj was on her way to Manchester for her concert, which was postponed. 

Netherlands police confirm that Minaj was fined and released. 

Global 

Landslide in Papua New Guinea killing over 600

On Friday, May 24, a landslide buried a remote village in Enga province, about 600 kilometers (370 miles) northwest of the capital, according toAssociated Press. The International Organization for Migration revised the death toll on Saturday, estimating that more than 670 people have been killed. 

Residents from surrounding areas said boulders and trees from a collapsed mountainside buried parts of the community and left it isolated. Officials confirm over 150 homes have been buried.
