10 Unique Restaurants in Ohio to Visit this Summer

Ohio has no shortage of fantastic restaurants; however, there are some restaurants that go above and beyond to provide a unique experience. 

Mike’s Place

Located in Kent, Ohio, Mike’s Place can only be described as eccentric. From the unique dining spaces to the commitment to satire, owner Mike Kostensky has made sure his customers are always entertained. 

The menu has just about everything, including breakfast and a vegetarian section. While inside Mike’s, you can find friendly staff and delicious food. Patrons can easily identify Mike’s Place by its X-Wing Star Fighter, castle structure and iconic bus dining space. 

Buckeye Express Diner

The Buckeye Express Diner is located in Belleville, Ohio and offers American cuisine with a great view.  

The diner sits inside a renovated train car, and its theme is centered around the Ohio State Buckeyes. Situated about 57  miles from Columbus just off of Interstate 71, the restaurant follows a fast-casual service model that is perfect for a quick trip while on the road. 

Terry's Turf Club

Known for thickly stacked burgers and neon signs, Terry’s Turf Club is a hidden gem located in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

On the outside, Terry’s looks like a regular seafood place one would see at the beach; on the inside, Terry’s offers so much more. Terry’s serves food on paper plates, a signature style that makes you feel at home. 

Pier W 

Pier W is nothing short of good food and good views. The restaurant is situated on Lake Erie, providing gorgeous sights. 

The building looks like the hull of a cruise ship, making this a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Pier W features seafood and wine options for the perfect fancy date night spot. 

The Schoolhouse Restaurant 

Located in Camp Denson, Ohio, the SchoolHouse Restaurant is the perfect spot for family dinners. 

Like the name implies, the restaurant is built in a restored 1862 schoolhouse with the all-American menu written on the old black board. 

The restaurant also has a general store and an event space that are perfect for family reunions and holiday functions. 

Sugar n’ Spice Diner

According to its website, Sugar n’ Spice Diner has been serving the Cincinnati area since 1941, and they have expanded to include three locations. The diner specializes in delicious breakfast and traditional diner food. Inside the restaurant has a vibrant theme for family fun. 

Schmidt’s Sausage Haus and Restaurant

This traditional German restaurant is located in the German Village in Columbus, Ohio. Their menu features great sandwiches, amazing soups, to-die-for desserts and sausage. 

Schmidt’s offers a great atmosphere, often having live music and very friendly staff. The German Village area has a lot to offer, but Schmidt’s is definitely a must-visit when in Columbus. 

Thirsty Pony

This restaurant is definitely not a hidden gem but offers a wide variety of food and entertainment.  Located in Sandusky and just a short drive from Cedar Point, Thirsty Pony is way more than just a restaurant. 

Themed after horse races, this restaurant also has a bowling alley and a Cedar Downs betting area. Thirsty Pony is constantly expanding, making each visit more and more unique. 

Jimmie’s Ladder 11

Located in Dayton, Ohio, Jimmie’s Ladder 11 sits in a renovated 1892 firehouse. Jimmie’s features firehouse themes, including a fire pole and classic red brick. The restaurant also has two outdoor patios and an event loft for parties. 

The menu has just about everything from pizza to seafood and loaded salads. Jimmie’s has a friendly staff and a great atmosphere for any occasion. 

The Haunted House Restaurant

The Haunted House Restaurant is the perfect place for Halloween fun year-round. The restaurant offers a wide variety of options, including a vegan section and items named after famous scary movie characters and motifs. 

The staff is very friendly and passionate about facilitating wonderful experiences. Located in Cleveland Heights, the Haunted House Restaurant is dedicated to celebrating the scary movie genre while also incorporating a family atmosphere.
