While there may not be another ‘Barbenheimer’ this year, 2024 is showing promise for new movies both in theaters and on streaming services. From romantic comedies to sequels, here are the most anticipated movies of the summer.
“A Quiet Place: Day One” – June 28
Starring Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong'o, “A Quiet Place: Day One" is the prequel and third installment of the A Quiet Place film series. This horror film explores the origin story of the alien monsters that hunt by sound, starting with the first day of the invasion in New York.
“A Quiet Place: Day One” comes to theaters June 28.
“A Family Affair” (Netflix) - June 28
Nicole Kidman, Joey King and Zac Efron star in “A Family Affair”, a romantic comedy about a mother falling in love with her daughter’s movie star boss. The film is produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Alyssa Altman, who also produced “Anyone but You”, another romantic comedy.
“A Family Affair” can be streamed on Netflix starting June 28.
“Space Cadet” (Prime Video) - July 4
In “Space Cadet”, Emma Roberts plays a party girl who dreams of going to space. Since she does not have a science background, she embellishes on her resume to land a spot in a NASA training program. Written and directed by Liz. W. Garcia this film is a different take on the “fake it until you make it” troupe.
“Space Cadet” can be streamed on Prime Video starting July 4.
“Twisters” - July 19
“Twisters” is a standalone sequel to the 1996 classic “Twister”. The film stars Glen Powell, Kiernan Shipka, Anthony Ramos and Daisy Edgar-Jones, among others.
The film is centered around a pair of storm chasers, who risk their lives testing out new storm tracking equipment as Okalohma experiences a deadly storm season.
The film is also accompanied by a 29 song soundtrack. The album features country music’s biggest stars, including Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Kane Brown, Thomas Rhett, Bailey Zimmerman, Shania Twain and Megan Moroney.
“Twisters” comes to theaters July 19.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” – July 26
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is the next installment in phase five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this film, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) must team up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to complete a mission for the Time Variance Authority (TVA).
“Deadpool & Wolverine” comes to theaters July 26.
“It Ends With Us” – August 9
Starring Blake Lively, “It Ends With Us” is a movie adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel with the same name. The film follows Lily, a recent college graduate, as she navigates old and new love.
Despite many delays in production, “It Ends With Us” comes to theaters August 9.
