Local 

43 horses killed and one person injured in a barn fire in Logan County

On Saturday, June 8, 43 horses were killed after being trapped in a burning barn in Logan County, according NBC4. One person was treated for burns. 

The Richland fire department said authorities were called about a barn fire 8755 State Route 638 just north of Northwood. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

National 

Three people injured in Shark attacks along Florida's Gulf Coast

On Friday, June 7, one woman and two girls were hurt in two separate shark attacks off the coast of Florida, according to the Associated Press. Authorities temporarily closed several beaches to swimmers. 

“All I can say is that these incidents are very rare,” Demian Chapman, a scientist and director of the Center for Shark Research at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, said. 

“It’s even more rare to have two events in one day involving three people,” he told The Associated Press. “That’s astronomically low odds of that happening.”

Global 

Israel rescues 4 hostages taken in Oct. 7 attack 

On Saturday, June 9, Israel carried out a rescue operation, taking four hostages safely from Gaza in a heavy air and ground assault, according to the Associated Press. Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 274 Palestinians including dozens of children were killed, and hundreds more were wounded in the raid. 

The Israeli army said Noa Argamani, 26; Almog Meir Jan, 22; Andrey Kozlov, 27; and Shlomi Ziv, 41, were freed after 246 days of being held.
