Plane crash near Ohio airport, killing three
On Saturday, July 20, a plane trying to make an emergency landing at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Ohio crashed, killing all three people aboard, according to the Associated Press.
Anthony Trevena, executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority, saidit appeared that the plane’s left engine had failed, and it missed the approach to land and circled back to approach again but went out of control and crashed near the north end of the runway.

CDC investigates listeria outbreak
On Friday, July 19, at least two people have died and more than two dozen were hospitalized in an outbreak of listeria food poisoning linked to meat sliced at grocery store deli counters, according to the Associated Press.
Federal Health Officials advise people who are pregnant, elderly or have compromised immune systems to avoid eating sliced deli meat unless it’s recooked at home to be steaming hot.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention didn’t mandate a food recall because it remains unclear what specific products have been contaminated with the bacteria.

Faulty software update causes global outages
On Friday, July 19, a faulty software update caused global outages, grounding flights, knocking down some financial companies and news outlets, and disrupting hospitals, small businesses and government offices, according to the Associated Press. Businesses and governments worldwide experienced hours-long disruptions.
The trouble was sparked by an update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike and only affected its customers running Microsoft Windows, the world’s most popular operating system for personal computers. It was not the result of hacking or a cyberattack, according to CrowdStrike.
