Trial set in case against Kettering Health Network

On Friday, July 12, the Soin Family, the namesake for Soin Medical Center, is suing Kettering Health Network for violating a branding contract, according to WDTN. The two parties are set to go to trial on January 26, 2026.

Court documents show the Soins are looking for Kettering Health to use the family’s name in prominent branding on exterior, secondary signage, announcements, marketing, marketing materials and more. The family is also suing Kettering Health for $25,000.

Assassination attempt on Donald Trump

On Saturday, July 13, Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, according to the Associated Press. Trump was shot in the upper part of his right ear. One attendee was killed and two spectators were critically injured, authorities said.

The FBI early Sunday, July 14, identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The agency said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The attack was the most serious attempt to assassinate a president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.

Richard Simmons dead at 76

On Saturday, July 13, Richard Simmons, fitness guru and TV host, died, according to the Associated Press. Simmons died at his home in Los Angeles, his publicist Tom Estey said in an email. He was 76 years-old.

“My food plan and diet are just two words — common sense. With a dash of good humor,” he told The Associated Press in 1982. “I want to help people and make the world a healthier, happy place.”

A school collapses in northern Nigeria, killing 22 students

On Friday, July 12, a two story school building collapsed during morning classes in northern Nigeria, killing 22 students and sparking a frantic search for more than 100 people trapped, according to the Associated Press.

A total of 154 students were initially trapped in the rubble, but police spokesperson Alfred Alabo later said 132 of them had been rescued and were being treated for injuries in various hospitals.
