New Raiders Guide to Student Discounts

Student Discounts | Graphic by Monica Brutto | The Wright State Guardian

To be honest, college is expensive. Very expensive. The majority of students take out some kind of loan to afford tuition and fees. However, one perk to being in college is the student discounts.

Here is a list of the most popular places where Wright State students can get a discount.

Raider discounts

There are several businesses around the Wright State University area that will give students discounts. These discounts can be as low as 5% to as high as 20%, and all that is required is the presentation of a student’s Wright1 card.

Both students and alumni take advantage of these discounts, including alum Donny Mrowiec.

“When I was a student, I took advantage of the 20% off at the barber. I’m going to still go because I like my guy, but man, the 20% really helped me out,” Mrowiec said.

A full list of the Raider discounts can be found on the Wright1 Card website.

National chains and retailers

There are several national chains and retailers that students can go to get discounts if needed. From Waffle House to Amazon, there will always be a discount for a student to explore. Marketing major Hannah Layton provided a lesser-known discount.

“I know Target has a 20% off discount. With the Target being right there, it is good for freshmen to know. I go all the time and I love my little discount,” Layton said.

Target is one of several major retailers that give college students discounts.

Web software companies also provide substantial discounts, such as Adobe. The company gives a whopping 60% off all of their products, which is useful for many students, such as Katelyn Abels, a graphic & multimedia design student.

“The Adobe discount helps a lot. I use something from Adobe in a lot of my classes everyday, so it’s like getting a textbook for basically free,” Abels said.

Students can find these discounts on sites like UniDays or  Studentbeans. There are also several other lists, like one from HillCollege, that outlines several other options.

With enough research, students can find a variety of discounts that will greatly help offset the usual expenses of colleges. Be on the lookout, Raiders!
