Whether you’re looking for a romantic date with your partner or a fun fall-themed activity with your besties, we’ve got you covered with 10 activities that will make this fall season the best one yet.
1. Pumpkin patch
While it is quite a basic fall activity, you can never go wrong with going to the pumpkin patch. It is the ultimate fall activity, from fresh apple cider to picking out a pumpkin to carve later.
You can find many popular pumpkin patches in the Dayton area. Some of the top-rated patches on the internet (or on Yelp) are less than a 30-minute drive from Wright State University, including Katie’s Pumpkin Barn, Peiffer Orchards and Young's Jersey Dairy.
2. Paint pumpkins
If you are grossed out by gutting pumpkins to carve them but still want a creative fall activity to do, try pumpkin painting! It makes for the perfect date night and leaves you with a unique fall decoration afterward.
3. Scary movie marathon
Whether you like to watch scary movies in the comfort of your own home or head to the local
theater for a jump scare with a side of popcorn, there are endless options for scary movies.
IMAX theater at the Greene is currently showing a variety of spooky movies, including Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Joker: Folie à Deux and Sam and Colby: The Legends of the Paranormal.
4. DIY entry mat
A seasonal art project that has taken over many social platforms, including Tiktok, is making your own entry mats to match the nearest holiday. Find a blank mat at your local Walmart, Target or craft store and use acrylic paint to design your own entry mat.
5. Baking fall treats
Nothing says fall quite like a homemade baked good. From pumpkin bread to chai cookies, you can never go wrong with a sweet treat. Need inspiration on what to bake? Scroll through Pinterest to find endless mouth-watering goods.
6. Haunted house
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Ohio tops the nation with the highest number of haunted houses, leading to 130 spooky destinations. One of the best ways to get into the spooky season is to get a little spooked! Check out Dayton’s Scream Park, just 10 minutes from WSU, or make the trip to Kings Island for their Halloween Haunt fest full of spooky trails.
7. Hot chocolate bar
Cozy up for a fun night with friends and host a hot chocolate bar. The best time for a hot cocoa is the fall time. Make it fun by adding unique toppings or a fun new flavor of hot chocolate.
8. Farmers market
Fresh produce is just the beginning of what many farmers' markets have to offer. Often, local markets offer a variety of fresh and baked goods, but you can also find many different styles of vendors. From woodworking projects to flower bouquets and fall decor, you are sure to have a great time at the farmers market.
9. Go for a hike
Embrace the autumn weather by getting outside and enjoying the beautiful colors that it has to offer. WSU’s campus often peaks in mid-October with a plethora of beautiful colors to observe on the trails that cover the grounds.
