On Sunday afternoon, Wright State's Club Gymnastics held a carwash fundraiser to prepare for the upcoming season.

Background

The Club Gymnastics team came to Wright State University in the fall of 2023 and has been rebuilding the team ever since. As of this semester, they have recruited fifteen new teammates and are continuing to grow.

One board member, Chandler Zwaap, talks about why those interested should join.

“It's a great opportunity for gymnasts of all skill levels to train and compete in a supportive, team-oriented environment,” Zwaap said.

The team competes through the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs. This gives the team a chance to compete in four competitions a year, as well as a chance to compete in April at nationals.

Car wash fundraiser

Wright State's Club Gymnastics team hosted their first fundraiser of the season. This fundraiser was to help raise funds for travel costs, new leotards and warm-ups for the team during competitions.

This fundraiser was a fun and creative way to raise money. Family, friends and many more came out to support the Club Gymnastics team. All this support will help the team in the future to achieve their goals.

Katie Reese is a member of the Wright State Club Gymnastics and helped out with the fundraiser.

“We had a great time meeting new people and washing cars as a team! We had some music going, snacks, and everyone seemed to be having fun,” Reese stated.

Including the carwash fundraiser and their popcorn double good fundraiser, the Club Gymnastics team has raised over $1,500 dollars.

Looking into the future

As the season moves along, the gymnastics club is working hard and learning new skills along the way. They practice multiple times a week to help prepare themselves for future competitions.

A support system can be great encouragement while learning new skills. The Club Gymnastics team has created a support system that is encouraging and holds each other accountable. Club President Rebecca Fedyk spoke on this.

“We are very supportive of all our members' achievements; you can often hear clapping and cheers throughout our practices,” Fedyk said.

Club Gymnastics will continue to work towards their goals through practice, as well as hosting other fundraisers, including a City Barbecue fundraiser on Sept. 30, and a Chipotle fundraiser the following month.
