From resume-building to mock interviews and networking opportunities, Career Services at Wright State University offers plenty of services that many students are not aware of.

Services offered

Career Services is a division at Wright State University, whose primary goal is to assist students moving into the working world. Each college hosts its own Assistant Director of Career Education & Success.

“Career Services connects people with people, and people with resources. We want to empower you to take control of your education—to turn your ambition into a meaningful career, cultivate your personal and professional network, and take advantage of the opportunities available to you,” the Career Services website states.

The Career Services team offers many educational events throughout the year, with hopes of bringing in more individual appointments to dig deep into each individual student's needs.

Wayne Stark is the Assistant Director of Career Education and Success for the College of Liberal Arts. In his position, he provides services, resources, events and programs for liberal arts students that contribute to their career development and empower them to reach their goals and dreams.

“The goal is to build enhanced relationships with faculty which will lead to increased classroom presentations. This is where we can serve students in an efficient and effective manner. The ultimate goal is that every student is aware we exist and feels comfortable coming to our office,” Stark said.

Their office assists an average of around 2,000 individual students each year on top of their networking events, presentations, and career fairs. Career services are even available after you graduate from WSU.

Stark and the other career educators assist alumni often with the same services provided to current students, no matter how far out from college they are.

Whether you are looking for a job or internship or just need help polishing up your interview skills and resume, Career Services has something great to offer you.

Student success

Emily Gilles is a senior at WSU studying communication with a minor in business.

“Out of all of the departments at Wright State, I really do have a lot of appreciation and am grateful for Career Services. I didn’t really have any direction before, and they really helped me figure out what I want to do,” Gilles said.

Gilles used Career Services when landing an internship the previous summer. Stark assisted in connecting Gilles to different employers and was even able to consider where her personality would fit best within the marketing world.

“I feel like they actually truly care about the students,” Gilles said.

After a very positive experience working with Career Services throughout the last year, Gilles intends to continue using their services before graduating this December.
