Women's donation drive YWCA | YWCA
This holiday season, YWCA Dayton is addressing urgent needs for women and children experiencing housing instability by collecting essential supplies such as hair products, body wash and baby wipes. All donations until Dec. 31 will be rewarded with a Winans gift card for a box of chocolates.
YWCA
YWCA Dayton serves the Montgomery and Preble County communities, focusing on racial, economic and gender equality. They provide year-round services including the domestic violence shelter, rehousing initiatives, issue advocacy and a 24-hour crisis hotline.
According to their website, YWCA Dayton serves "thousands of women and children” each year.
Right now, supplies for women and children without stable housing are in high demand.
The highest needs listed on YWCA’s Wish List include hair products, especially for women of color, body wash, underwear and socks, twin XL sheets and air mattresses, powdered laundry soap and baby wipes.
YWCA Dayton is not accepting clothing donations at this time, apart from new or gently used cold weather attire like coats and boots. For more information on what and how to donate, visit the YWish List on the YWCA Dayton website.
“When you donate, you are impacting the lives of the women and children in a positive and meaningful way,” their website states.
Winans
Winans Coffee and Chocolate is a high-end coffee shop and eatery with 19 locations throughout Ohio. The Winans menu features house-roasted coffee drinks and their signature Wurtles, along with a variety of other chocolates.
This November and December, Winans is launching the “Winans Family Helping Families” program. They are partnering with seven non-profit organizations located near a Winans store to encourage patrons to donate. Among these non-profits is YWCA Dayton.
Other Winans partners for the holiday season include Project Woman Ohio in Springfield, First Place Food Pantry in Miami County and Freedom A La Cart in Columbus.
Anyone who donates to these non-profit partners will receive a Winans gift card for a four-piece box of chocolates while supplies last.
“This Holiday Season we want our customers to help us on our mission to make sure everyone in our community has what they need to feel warm, well fed and loved,” Director of Marketing and Technology Lindsey Reiser at Winans explained in a Facebook post.
Other Ways to give support
On Thursday, Dec. 5, Winans is hosting a Donation Day for YWCA Dayton. For that day only, 10% of sales at Winans stores in Beavercreek, Centerville, Vandalia and Dayton will go to YWCA Dayton. Patrons can get a cup of coffee or a box of chocolates and know that their money is going to a worthy cause.
YWCA Dayton is also looking for volunteers to prep and serve food in their Downtown Dayton kitchen and sort clothing donations for Hope’s Closet. They are located only a 15-minute drive from Wright State University’s campus and are willing to accommodate college students’ hectic schedules.
“We are happy to work with you and your busy schedule, and any amount of time that you can give is so greatly appreciated,” Communications Marketing Specialist at YWCA Dayton Ariel Parker stated.
