Bill on school bathroom use by transgender students moves forward to Governor DeWine

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, — The Ohio Senate approved a bill that will ban transgender students from using bathrooms that fit their gender identities and sent it to Governor Mike DeWine to approve or deny, according to the Associated Press.

The Republican-backed bill applies to public K-12 schools and  higher education institutions . It requires the schools to designate separate bathrooms, locker rooms and overnight accommodations “for the exclusive use” of either males and females, based on one’s gender assigned at or near birth, in both school buildings and facilities used for a school-sponsored event.

The daughters of Malcolm X sue the CIA, FBI and NYPD 

On Friday, Nov. 15, the three daughters of Malcom X accused the CIA, FBI, the New York Police Department and others in a $100 million lawsuit of playing roles in the 1965 assassination of the civil rights leader, according to the Associated Press

They claim that the agencies were aware of and were involved in the assassination plot and failed to stop the killing. The lawsuit was not brought sooner because the defendants allegedly withheld information from the family. 

Global 

Russian opposition lead a march calling for democracy an end to war in Ukraine

On Sunday, Nov. 17, Prominent Russian opposition figures led a march of at least 1,000 people in Berlin, criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin and his war in Ukraine and calling for democracy in Russia, according to the Associated Press. 

The protesters were led by Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of top Putin critic Alexei Navalny, as well as Ilya Yashin and Vladimir Kara-Murza, who were freed from Russian detention in a high-profile prisoner exchange this summer.
