Wright State University’s Mens’ Club Volleyball is in their second semester as a club sport on campus. Founded by Andrew Glasser, the team started with only eight players and has since grown to thirteen players.
Coming onto campus
The team started gathering in fall of 2023 with just a few players practicing the whole semester. In the spring of 2024, the players got together to create an official club team and have been on campus since.
With only nine members in the spring semester, the team played in tournaments, losing every game except one. However, the team continued to practice to improve their skills and grow as a team.
Zakary White is currently the vice president of Men's Volleyball and has been a part of the team since his freshman year. He joined the team through the now President Brayden Clouse.
“This year, thanks to our recruiting efforts, our team has grown both in number and in connection,” White Stated.
Current season
Coming off of the prior season, the Mens’ Club Volleyball was ready to grow their organization and worked to promote their tryouts.
At the beginning of the season, the team traveled to Ohio University and went 3-2, having a key win against Ohio University’s B team. This key win was a step in the right direction for the Raiders.
Following this tournament the Raiders traveled to the University of Dayton. The team held high spirits and were working hard to do their best at UD. However, after ending this tournament, the Raiders held a 1-4 record.
The Raiders were continuing to push excellence and growth throughout the team during the third game of the season. They traveled to Miami University and went against competitive teams such as Miami A and Cedarville University. The Raiders finished with a 2-4 record at this tournament.
Nicholas Marshall is the treasurer of Club Volleyball as well as the middle on the court. He has never played volleyball before, but grew up watching his sister play. This is his first full year playing organized volleyball and has seen the growth of the organization.
“As a team, I don't believe we struggle in one specific measure, I believe it is just limiting our mistakes, if we are able to limit our mistakes, we can go toe to toe with any team,” Marshall said.
The Raiders are continuing their practices every Sunday and are hard at work to improve their skills and team connection.
The Men's Club Volleyball team will be heading down to University of Louisville Nov. 23 for their next tournament. To stay up to date on any information, check out their Instagram.
