The Wright State University Chemistry Club has made an outstanding comeback after restarting its club in the Spring of 2024. The best part about their club: you do not have to be a chemistry major to join!
What is the Chemistry Club?
Jeremy Rismiller is a dual-majoring senior at WSU who also serves as the Chemistry Club– or Chem Club– president.
“I worked with the officers to restart the Chem Club last year. We wanted to make a place where we could help each other out and get to know each other. It's really easy to let yourself get buried in your work, so we wanted a way for our members to help get away from that for a little while,” Rismiller said.
The Chem Club serves as an outlet for chemistry majors and other WSU students. They host fun and educational events throughout the year but also encourage networking, resume-building and social experiences.
From study nights to collaborations with the WSU Career Advising team, there are so many incredible perks to being involved in this club.
Getting involved
Not only does the Chem Club provide an excellent place to learn and grow within chemistry fields, but it also provides a fun social atmosphere for all students to benefit from.
Deven Yakes is a third-year student involved in many activities, including the Chem Club.
“I am drawn to it for the socializing aspect. I have made a bunch of friends throughout the semester and even reconnected with old friends,” Yakes said.
Yakes’ favorite memories come from their get-togethers and fundraisers. Other members expressed that game nights and Friendsgiving were their favorite events held throughout the semester.
The Chemistry Club hosts a plethora of social events to destress during the semester. Their goal is to get as many students as they can involved to help share that chemistry can be fun.
Any student can join in on the fun just by showing up to one of their events or joining their GroupMe.
Into the future
The Chemistry Club wants to make chemistry fun and connect with each other to make the learning atmosphere more vibrant.
Maggie Mann is a junior transfer student, involved in many clubs while also serving as the Vice President of Chemistry Club.
“The chemistry club is a great organization to be a part of! All of our events are open to anyone and are a great way to have fun and meet friends. We want to create a space where students can learn more about chemistry and get the support they need beyond the classroom,” Mann said.
Looking into the Spring of 2025, Chemistry Club has planned a crossover event with the Biology Club, a birthday party celebration, tie-dying lab coats and a potential tour of a local lab.
