This past Wednesday, the Wright State Men’s basketball hosted Marshall University. Leading through the whole game, the raiders were victorious over the Thundering Herd.

Before the game

Coming into the game, the Raiders were fresh off an 80-72 victory against Detroit Mercy.

The Raiders came in with a 6-5 overall record and the team was confident about their win for the day’s game, even with the close track record.

Period one

The raiders started the game on the defensive side against the herd; Marshall got a few attempted shots, however the Raiders’ defense was staying strong and not letting anything past.

Number 3 Alex Huibregtse scored the first basket of the game, a 3-pointer for the Raiders.

Brandon Noel, number 14 and a returning junior for the Raiders, played a strong game, dominating the paint and securing 14 points in the first half.

The Raiders were moving the ball around throughout the first period, making passes and connecting plays. They played as a team and ended the first period with a lead of 37-26.

Period Two

Heading into the second half, the Raiders came out strong, but the Herd was right there with them, ready to compete for the win.

Throughout the second half, both teams played at a fast pace, moving the ball up and down the court. Shots were fired continuously, and fouls were called frequently as the intensity of the game escalated.

Nearing the end of the second period, the Herd caught up with the Raiders, tying up the game 76-76 with just three minutes left.

“We’re known for losing those close games,” Noel stated, “We want to try and win those close games, that’s what it’s coming down to.”

In the final minutes of the game, both teams were locked in a fierce battle for the win. However, the Raiders stayed strong, putting up a great fight and ultimately securing the victory against the Thundering Herd.

“ Could not be more proud of our group, the resilience, Alex Huibregtse to step up and make that shot,” Head Coach Clint Sargent said.

Following the match

The Wright State Men’s Basketball will continue their season on Wednesday, Dec 18 at the Nutter Center against Youngstown State University.
