Program Discounts Available to Wright State University Students

Being a university student often comes with a variety of discount opportunities. However, many Wright State University students may be unaware of the program discounts available to them. Here's a breakdown of these discounts and the services offered through the Dunbar Library and CaTS.

Discounts that are available

WSU has a website which lists many available programs for students to purchase or rent, as well as how much they are compared to the usual cost.

The website is listed by category, starting with most popular. Besides popularity, it is organized by productivity, data analysis, security, training and photo, video & design categories. In total, there are dozens of programs of varying types and release dates available to every student.

All students should qualify for the discounts as long as they are an active student. However, it is important to prove your active status before you can make a purchase.

“You are required to provide proof of your academic affiliation to register and qualify for the software discounts offered,” the website states.

Some of the well-known brands that are offered include NordVPN, Adobe, Corel Painter, PowerNotes, Corel WordPerfect Office and various PDF readers.

Utilizing CaTS and the Dunbar Library

For students who need some of these programs for a brief period, cannot afford a long-term subscription or need help troubleshooting any technical problems that may pop up as a result of buying these programs, CaTS and the Dunbar Library offer many ways to help.

The library offers various media equipment, including color printers, a button maker, laminators and other various tools. On top of this, you can reserve rooms which provide media like Adobe Creative Cloud programs. A full list of programs that can be found throughout the library is available here.

While different from programs, the library also has its Library of Things– a compiled list of physical and digital sources for students to use for free.

“Are you ready to explore a new hobby? Enjoy visiting area museums? Eager to try new board games? The Library of Things collection allows you to borrow kits, fitness tools, museum passes, photo and video equipment, technology tools, and more—all free of cost,” the website advertises.

For anyone who may take advantage of the student discounts and download one of the many offered programs on WSU’s website, technical difficulties may occur. Luckily, CaTS is available to help with these issues.

A full list of troubleshooting help that CaTS provides is available here. You can also visit them at 025 Library Annex, in the basement near the elevator to the Dunbar Library.

Student opinions on discounts

Student opinion is largely positive, though many students were previously unaware of the listed website. Paulo DeMarke, a law major, is one of these students.

“I don’t utilize student discounts frequently, but every once a year I use them,” DeMarke said. “I didn’t know [the program discounts] existed, but I would buy a few of these products if I did have the money. One being the Criminal IP Category, as these may assist me in my law degree, and the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.”

While money may still be an issue for students, student discounts offer a nice change of pace from skyrocketing program prices over the past decade.

For brief access to some services for free, do not forget to reach out to the Dunbar Library or CaTS!
